The Help (2024), oil on canvas, 200 x 210 cm

$11,000.00

In 'The Help', the artwork explores themes of self-soothing and empowerment amidst personal turmoil. Depicting dual representations of the artist herself, the piece embodies the nurturing and healing role one can play during isolation and uncertainty.

Against a backdrop of dark interiors and a partially open door revealing a shadowed exterior, the composition evokes internal reflection and the hesitant embrace of new opportunities. A potted plant on the left signifies life's potential amid constraints, embodying growth and limitation. Central to the composition are two female figures: one seated, nude except for sneakers and socks, expressing raw honesty and reconnection with oneself; and the other standing, dressed in pyjamas, slippers, and a robe, embodying vulnerability and introspection. The standing figure gently places a hand on the shoulder of her nude counterpart, symbolising self-care and support. The nudity of the seated figure signifies a stripped-down honesty, while her poised readiness with sneakers and socks indicates a renewed determination to face the future.

Above them, another painting depicts a nude woman reclining on a chaise longue, with her back to the viewer and her head turned proudly towards them. This painting created subsequent to 'The Help', represents the resilience and eventual resurgence of joy and productivity after navigating personal turmoil.
